She is not your friend, and you have nothing that she needs. She holds your gaze because you stare at her, transfixed by her power, hypnotized by her unapologetic being. She wears her scars like a badge of honor. She is a badass woman.

I was inspired to create her by strong women who stand up for themselves.

"M" stands for Mother; it stands for Maria; it stands for Mus.

Mus means "mouse" in Danish; it was the pet name given to my grandmother, and never was a name more ill fitting of a person. To this day I credit her with having grown up not being afraid of strong women.

Defiance "M" was created in the dead of night.

She is acrylic paint on stretched gallery canvas painted entirely with a palette knife.

The original measures merely 9 x 12, and has been gifted to one of the women who inspired me to create this piece of art.
