Born in one of the oldest alternative communities in Europe, a place called Freetown Christiania, a sort of village that lies within Copenhagen, Denmark, Bjørn grew up in a hub of creativity, rebelliousness, and originality, and he emerged with a love for freedom of expression, authenticity, and creative liberty.
Bjørn's natural talent for drawing was noticed and encouraged from a young age, and he would soon fall in love with painting. But though he always returned to creating art in his free time, and he chose careers with a creative element, he never considered that creating fine art could be a profession. It was one of those things that's "too good to be true".
He still chose career paths of creativity, and owned and operated 2 fashion clothing boutiques in downtown Copenhagen, where he designed his own clothing line. But, as it were to happen a few times, he would not settle, and after the success of his fashion clothing boutiques, he had moved abroad, wanting to make a positive difference in the world. There he lived and worked with young marginalized people, first in Wales and then in Edinburgh, Scotland, before finally moving back to Denmark where he obtained a BA in Social Education from UCC Copenhagen, while continuing his work with empowering young disenfranchised people.
He finally settled in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 2010. It was a new start, and he found himself considering his options yet again, and he felt that now was the time to focus on his art as a professional occupation.
Over the next decade he found himself illustrating books, airbrushing motorcycles, developing a hand painted lamp line, creating coloring books as well as translating game content for world-renowned developers from English to Danish, all of which allowed him to express his love of art and creative pursuit in various forms, but none of which truly allowed him to express his artistic vision freely.
Looking back on that period of his life, he today understands that he was moving towards his true vocation and place in the world hindered by inner resistance. He was plagued by some internalized voice that whispered up from his subconscious that his art needed a practical application to be worthy. Art by other artists did not have to live up to this criteria, but his own art was not valuable in itself, and no amount of external recognition to change this unconscious limiting belief.
As a result none of his artistic endeavors bore fruit, and though it was both embarrassing and painful to experience that his pursuits failed, it was necessary for him in order to face his inner demons and make peace with who he truly is in a healthy and powerful expression of living life authentically free.
In 2020 he joined the one year long Mastery Program at Milan Art Institute. It was a journey that allowed him to master the techniques of painting freely, and it set him on the path to truly find his voice as an artist while also providing the roadmap to successfully becoming a professional artist in the world.
Today he stands both humbly and proudly in the world as an artist. This is his place, and he is grateful for the journey that brought him here.
"Art does not need a practical application. Art's purpose is to heal the soul, to uplift the heart. Art is a force for good, a herald of truth and beacon of wonder."
